It prioritizes Greater Philadelphia being recognized as the global hub of research, talent, capital, and companies in cell & gene therapy, gene editing, and connected health.
ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
Launched in January 2019, the Cell & Gene Therapy and Connected Health Initiative is supported by 11 partner companies, institutions, and universities in the Greater Philadelphia region. It is focused on the following:
- Shared Storytelling to build awareness of the region’s assets and attract talent, capital, and companies
- Development of Critical Infrastructure to ensure smooth transitions from concepts to products
- Talent Assessment, Attraction, and Training to proactively address workforce needs as the industry scales
- Building a Scalable Ecosystem that supports growing and retaining companies, innovators, and expertise in the region.
The Greater Philadelphia region saw an almost 500 percent increase in venture capital funding in the last 18 months – contributing to the success of six FDA approved therapies with research origins from the region.

This toolkit is a living resource centered on Greater Philadelphia’s past, present, and future as a hub for cell and gene therapy and connected health.
The core of the toolkit is a set of key messages and supporting points, which were developed to synthesize the region’s strengths in these areas. These messages are designed to resonate with key audiences including investors, customers, talent, expanding companies, members of the media and others.
These messages can be incorporated into press materials, talking points, website and marketing materials, event signage, social media posts and beyond. Reinforcing these messaging points through varied uses across organizations will help to build a cohesive message about the good work happening in our region in cell and gene therapy and connected health.
