The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia’s Select Greater Philadelphia team has been on the road, sharing the region’s cell and gene therapy story and identifying and nurturing business attraction and expansion opportunities. Among the recent events the Chamber participated in was Advanced Therapies Week – Phacilitate in Miami, January 17-20, 2023, where the Select team met with more than 70 companies to discuss the opportunities for locating their company in the 11-county Greater Philadelphia region. The Chamber also conducted outreach to 250 attendees, sharing materials that illustrate what makes Greater Philadelphia a leading life sciences center and hub for cell and gene therapy. Advanced Therapies Week outreach alone has yielded over a dozen business attraction leads and prospects. Their combined commercial real estate needs represent more than 715,000 square feet of potential lab, office, and manufacturing space.
Meeting life sciences leaders and addressing their business location and expansion needs and questions will be a key priority for the Select team in the coming months as the Chamber works to grow the region’s life sciences ecosystem. Select’s conference calendar includes participation in several high-profile industry events, including CPhI North America in April, both the SelectUSA Investment Summit and American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy’s (ASGCT) Annual Meeting in May, and the BIO International Convention in June. The Select team invites the region’s life sciences companies and organizations to partner on these opportunities. Read more below.
Upcoming: American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy’s (ASGCT) Annual Meeting
Work is already underway on the Chamber’s participation in the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy’s (ASGCT) Annual Meeting, which will take place from May 16-20, 2023, in Los Angeles. The meeting is attended by industry professionals, including academic researchers, clinicians, bio-industry development leaders, regulatory agencies, equipment manufacturers, patent advocates, and others.
“Select’s booth is booked, and we are now extending an invitation to life sciences companies in our region to engage with us as strategic partners to maximize the opportunities from this premier cell and gene therapy event,” said James Medaglio, the Chamber’s Director of Business Attraction & Expansion. “Our objective at ASGCT is to continue to build on the momentum we see in the region. We are also pleased to be able to amplify the business-friendly transformative changes announced by Governor Shapiro’s office that will have positive results for those looking to locate or expand in Greater Philadelphia.
In addition to hosting meetings and receptions at the Select booth on the trade show floor, Medaglio said, Select will be connecting ASGCT attendees and Chamber members to Greater Philadelphia and trade show news via email and social media. “We have three new publications that we shared with Phacilitate attendees and plan to send to ASGCT attendees about the region’s resources for life sciences and cell and gene therapy companies,” he said. They include: “The State of Cell and Gene Therapy in the Greater Philadelphia Region” study commissioned by the Chamber and researched by Econsult Solutions, Inc.; the “Scaling life sciences operations” whitepaper published by Fierce Biotech; and the “Hiring Smarter in Greater Philadelphia” article in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News. “We invite other industry professionals from the region to share these Chamber-sponsored materials, too.”
The Chamber welcomes organizations interested in partnering on or connecting at these events to reach out, Medaglio added. “We are looking forward to the partnerships that will help us tell the world about the important work being done in our region and the connected, collaborative, and accessible environment Greater Philadelphia offers,” he said.
Upcoming: CPh North America, SelectUSA Investment Summit, and BIO International
