Greater Philadelphia was well represented at the Cell & Gene Meeting on the Mesa, held October 11-13, 2022, in Carlsbad, California, and organized by the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine. The hybrid conference featured presentations by leading public and private companies highlighting technical and clinical achievements over the past year in cell therapy, gene therapy, tissue engineering, and broader regenerative medicine technologies.

More than 2,100 attendees participated in the annual conference, which gathers senior executives and top decision-makers to advance cutting-edge research into cures. Among the Greater Philadelphia companies that participated were AmeriSourceBergen, Cabaletta Bio, Carisma Therapeutics, Center for Breakthrough Medicines, Century Therapeutics, Interius BioTherapeutics, Iovance Biotherapeutics, Jefferson Institute for Bioprocessing (JIB), UBC, University of Pennsylvania Gene Therapy Program, Verismo Therapeutics, Vinta Bio, and WuXi Advanced Therapies.

The 2022 meeting marked the first year the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia participated in the conference. James Medaglio, Director of Business Attraction and Expansion at the Chamber, who represented Greater Philadelphia in Carlsbad, said, “The Chamber brings together all kinds of businesses and leaders to the table – new, established, big, small, growing, thriving, innovative, experimental – to build community, find commonalities, and make Greater Philadelphia a great place for good business. At the Cell & Gene Meeting on the Mesa, we made connections with the country’s top industry professionals, and shared the message that Greater Philadelphia is a collaborative cell and gene therapy ecosystem focused on discovery.”

Medaglio also touted the region’s talent pool, accessible infrastructure, affordable real estate, and dynamic and energetic quality of life. These assets, along with details on the region’s demographics, colleges and universities, employers, and funding, are described on the Chamber’s Select Greater Philadelphia website and in a new Life Sciences information deck for companies looking to locate or expand in the region.
