Daniel J. Hilferty, President and CEO of Independence Blue Cross, and Ralph Muller, CEO of the University of Pennsylvania’s Health System, placed an op-ed in the Philadelphia Business Journal about the importance of healthcare innovation in the Greater Philadelphia region.
They write, “As the health care industry undergoes dramatic change, we’re moving nimbly, acting boldly, and embracing the possibilities of partnership. Together, we are working to unlock the potential of Philadelphia as a magnet for health care innovation, drawing the best minds and the brightest ideas to our region.
After all, Philadelphia is the ideal environment for health care innovation, investment and employment. Our region is home to expert health care entrepreneurs, a thriving biosciences industry, an active investment community, major pharmaceutical companies, world-class research, top notch academic institutions, and nationally ranked medical schools and health systems.”
This op-ed is timely as the CEO Council for Growth and partner organizations released “Digital Health: Building on our Strengths.” This report outlines the region’s strength and potential in Digital Health.
Healthcare Innovation is a top priority for the CEO Council. As part of the work to bolster this sector, the CEO Council is seeking to create a laboratory for healthcare innovation, market and promote the strengths of this sector through Select Greater Philadelphia as well as pursue funding opportunities for the region.
